Dear Zoho Campaigns Users,
Zoho introduced a new feature—bot filtering—to improve the accuracy of your email campaign analytics. This update is designed to help you exclude bot-driven opens and clicks, ensuring that your campaign reports reflect authentic user engagement.
What are bot clicks?
Bot clicks refer to actions performed by automated systems rather than actual recipients. These bots often scan emails to check for threats like viruses or harmful links. As a result, bot clicks can lead to inflated engagement statistics, such as multiple clicks from one recipient, even though no human interacted with the email.
Why is bot filtering important?
Bot-generated clicks and opens can distort your campaign metrics, making it harder to measure real engagement. By implementing the bot filtering feature, users can remove these automated actions from their reports, providing a more accurate view of how their audience interacts with their campaigns.
Key features of bot filtering
Toggle on/off: Easily switch bot filtering on or off by accessing the Settings > General Settings section.
Accurate insights: Once enabled, bot filtering will automatically remove bot-related opens and clicks from your reports, offering more precise data on recipient engagement.
Full transparency: A visual indicator in your reports will show whether bot filtering is active, ensuring clarity in your data analysis.
How it works
Default setting:
For new users
By default, bot filtering is off, meaning all opens and clicks, including those from bots, will appear in your reports. You can enable it from the settings.
For existing users
By default, bot filtering is on, so bot-related activity will not show up in your reports. You can choose to turn it off if needed.
How to enable bot filtering in Zoho Campaigns
Step 1: Locate the bot filtering option
Step 2: Toggle the bot filtering feature
In the Bot Filter settings, switch the toggle to enable the feature.
Step 3: Confirm activation
When you enable bot filtering, a confirmation pop-up will appear. Click "Go ahead" to activate it, and it will apply to all future campaigns.
When you enable this option, a pop-up will appear to confirm your decision. Click Go ahead to enable the feature, which will be applicable to all upcoming campaigns.
Step 4: Enable/disable the filter
When enabled: Bot opens and clicks will be excluded from your reports.
When disabled: All opens and clicks, including bot activity, will be reflected in your reports.
Here's how you can see it in the campaign reports,
Without bot filtering enabled: Your reports will show all opens and clicks, including bot-generated ones.
Note:
Open rates may decrease when the bot filter is enabled.
Follow-up actions, such as journeys and response action components, will not be triggered by bot interactions.
For example, if a user disables bot filtering before sending a campaign but re-enables it afterward, the email campaign report will still reflect bot-related activities. This occurs because the settings were disabled at the time the campaign was sent.
Please note that Apple Mail Privacy Protection (MPP) opens are not currently filtered in this update. We are working on a solution to handle Apple MPP opens and will provide another update soon.
Bot filter option when campaign was sent | Bot filter option after the campaign was sent | Bot-related activities in campaign reports |
Enabled | Disabled | Excluded |
Disabled | Enabled | Included |
Step 5: Disable confirmation pop-up
If you decide to turn off bot filtering, you’ll receive a confirmation pop-up to finalize your choice.
